One of the women in my ATC group has been dieing to do a Chunky ATC swap for the past year. Well, we finally got it together to do this swap, combining it with a pot luck dinner. How can you possibly go wrong? Good food, great art and fabulous friends?!
Anyway, I had SOOO much fun!
I started my Chunky by coating all sides except the top and bottom with Light Molding Paste to create lots of texture. Next I applied some watered down Distress Paints and once that dried I glued on some torn bits of printed Kraft Tissue (7 Gyspies), pushing the tissue into the cracks & crevices. For a little distress glitz I lightly swiped over the dry block with a metallic distress stain. The brass frame is altered with Vintag Patina Paints. I then used a sanding block to sand away the high points and distress it a bit more. After attaching the image to the frame I attached it to the block with foam tape. I hammered away at the Brass Label with my distressing hammer creating some awesome texture (can you tell - I LOVE texture?!) before hammering the letters with my metal alphabet stamps. To bring out the words and patterns I wiped it with Black Soot Distress Paint. I attached it to the block (over some antique tatted lace) with escutcheon nails - again happily hammering away - VBG! The butterflies are die cut using Memory Box and Tim Holtz dies. I used hand painted paper that I had on hand. Each butterfly consists of two butterflies attached on either side of the twisted wire with glue dots (Micro and Small). I drilled pilot holes for each wire and glued into the hole with Glossy Accents. The black cabochons I found at the Fashion & Textile Show last year. I loved them and bought quite a few for my Etsy Shop (there are still a few packs left for sale). Wasn't sure exactly what I would use them for - I only knew that I loved them. Glad I finally got to use a couple!
Oh, and I almost forgot the feet! They are little wooden plugs that I painted then glued a little bit of Gold German Dresden to fancy them up.
This turned into a much longer post than I anticipated so if you read it all the way to the end - You Rock!
Thank you for stopping by!
