New Class Teaser!

Just finished this SWEET little book for an upcoming class at Beautiful Impressions.  I am just tickled how it came out.  Just so stinkin' cute (if I do say so myself) but with an altered/vintage twist!  It's a mini memory book with 3 additional mini albums tucked in between the pages.

Date, time, etc is still to be determined, but hopefully sometime in April because it would make a beautiful Mother's Day gift for mom's new and not so new.  I made a similar book with a Christmas theme for my Mom and filled it with Christmas pics of me & my brother when we were little (we are both in our late 40's, early 50's now) - she absolutely loved it and we both shed a few tears over it.

I will announce the class specifics as soon as I get them. 

Note: this will be a 6 hour class with a break for lunch/shopping.

BRRRRRRR!!!

LOVED Key West!  Hubby so much so that he wants to buy a place to retire to in the Lower Keys so he can hang out on the bridges and fish for snapper and grouper all day.  Let's just say I have thoroughly encouraged that line of thinking - VBG!

I just finished creating 3 new photo albums of my trip.  All these photos are from just one of the two cameras I brought.  Over 400 on this camera alone!  The other camera is my Digi Lomo camera which I hope to get to by the end of the week. 

Right now I have to concentrate on closing my 2011 books. Another tough year - I am hopeful 2012 will be an improvement. :0)  Also working on class offerings.  Some repeats of older classes plus some new, exciting book binding/making, metal, jewelry and mixed media classes. 

One of my goals for 2012 is to submit artwork to magazines again.  I had gotten away from it and even my husband commented that I had not submitted anything in a long time.  No time like the present - right?

Card For A Friend

A friend's FIL passed away after a long illness last weekend.  She was very broken up.  Even when you have time to prepare you're never really ready to loose someone you love.

  I used a couple of new techniques that I learned from Tim Holtz's 12 Tags Of Christmas on her card.  The background is a new Hero Arts stamp that I double embossed using Tumbled Glass & Vintage Photo Distress Inks.  The scrolls are die cut from cardstock and sanded to bring up the texture.  The shrine (by Stamp Camp) is embossed on vintage German text and embellished with Platinum Stickles and a vintage religious charm.  I finished the card with the cross charm (Lost Art Creations/Etsy) and sentiment (IO).

Just a little bit of cuteness!  Polly & Cleo will be 9 mos old this month.  I think the lights were too much for Cleo - VBG!  Polly refused to move over on the chair so Cleo had to settle for the floor.

Holiday Altered Book RR ~ Karen BP's Book

Here are the scans of the spreads I did for Karen BP's altered book.  The holiday I chose for September is Ancestors Appreciation Day.  I am really happy how they came out. I wasn't sure if the background choice would translate from my brain to the page but it did. I glued torn bits of vintage German text to spots on all the pages. I found a cool scrapbook paper with shuttered windows on it.  Vintage photos (copies) are behind Mica to signify the glass in the windows. I tore the edges and glued those down as well. Then I used a palette knife to apply crackle paste and a white flake medium which gives the effect of
curling/lifting paint like on ancient frescoes. Love this stuff! I will be using it more often. Then I painted layers of acrylic paint washes, rubbing off excess with a paper towel to really bring up the textures and see peeks of the text through the paint.

Time To Party!

Today is my birthday.  This year is more special to me because there was a time this Spring that I didn't think I'd make it to 51.  To celebrate we are attending a benefit called Dinners At The Farm.  I love the whole concept of this event and have tried for the past three years to attend but it was always sold out really early.  So this year I made reservations is April to make sure I got in.  They just posted pics from last weekends dinner at Barberry Hill Farm (where we are going this evening).  It's so beautiful and everything looks SO yummy!

Dinners At The Farm has been featured in national food & lifestyle magazines, the Food Network and on the Cooking Channel's Food(ography).  If you have the opportunity to attend this type of event in your area - do it!  You won't be disappointed!  After all, no farmers - no food.

14 Weeks

Here are some new pics of the fur-babies.  They are 14 weeks old and growing like weeds!  Turns out at least one of Polly's parents is an Egyptian Mau.  She has all the traits of one, both physically and in temperment.  We questioned that Polly & Cleo were actually part of the same litter but we found out that one litter can have more than one father.  Who knew!?

The (Mis)Adventures of Polly & Cleo

My husband came home late on Tuesday evening after Abby passed away.  The house felt so quiet & empty.  He wanted to go right out and get a kitten but I wasn't ready.  We discussed what we wanted and decided that we wanted 2 kittens, same sex and litter mates that get along.

The next day he took me out to lunch then he said he needed to run a couple of errands.  We ended up at PetSmart where the CT Humane Society has an adoption center.  I told him again I wasn't ready but he said, "let's just look.  What are the odds they will have exactly what we want?"

Sigh, OK I said.

I guess the odds were pretty good because they had EXACTLY what we were looking for.  They were they last 2 of an all female litter of 5 and SO DANG CUTE!  We went in to interact with them and they took to both of us right away, licking my finger and purring away.  The kicker is that they were born on my brother's birthday - Feb 22nd.

So long story, short(er), we adopted both kittens.  They are 10 weeks old and full of all that kitten energy.  We decided to name them after my grandmother & her sister as we wanted old-fashioned names for them.

So, without further adieu meet Polly and Cleo.  Cleo is the fluff ball, Polly the tiger.

Thank You!

Thank you all SO much for all your kind & comforting words.  She is missed very much.  Ever since she had 2 skin cancers removed last September I considered each day a gift as I knew this day was coming.
