Take A Picture!

 

I am a participant in a worldwide photo project that I found out about from my friend Lenna. It's called Aday.org.  Everyone around the world took pictures on 5/15/12 and is sharing them through the site.  I enjoyed it and I'm off to see what everyone else took pics of.  I hope they choose another day to do this again!

I've never done anything like this before and except for the heavy, torrential rain ruining my planned photos, in the end it actually added to the pics I took.  The screens were soaked from the rain and made my view look like an impressionist painting.  Pretty & lush!

To One Person

I've been forced to stay at home more since my knee finally gave out on me.  I've decided to be as productive as possible so I have been etching copper for book covers.  While the covers were etching I made another card sample for B-Line Designs.  I LOVE this screen door stamp and it backs itself perfectly!  The paper is one of the new Bo Bunny 6x6 paper pads - SO pretty!  Stamps and paper are available at Beautiful Impressions in Westbrook, CT.

All 6 covers are finally etched, I just need to patina/paint them before I will share them.  A couple are for gifts but the rest will be for sale.  Figured I might as well line up some projects to keep me busy.  Heard from the doc today.  The MRI results show 'a degradation of the medial meniscus and partially torn ligaments' .  Sounds like fun - eh?  The Orthopedic doc is next - Woohoo!  I just want to get this taken care of so I can get out in the garden again.  I missed out last Spring because of the heart stuff - I really don't want to miss another season!  Why couldn't this happen in the middle of Winter?!  Sigh

 

SCORE!

First I have to say that I NEVER have luck when it comes to finding a treasure at a great price.  It just doesn't happen to me - until now.  My MIL and I went out antiquing & junking when she visited last week.  I told her she was my lucky charm - VBG!  At the first store I got a Lot of vintage hankies, an old fashioned stamp stand (to hold my ink blending tools) and a beautiful Daguerreotype, all at FABULOUS prices.  Next we went to a little antique store across the street and I found some beautiful old postcards for only a buck a piece! 

The next store we visited had all kinds of delights and curiosities.  Looked kind of like something you'd see in a movie - very cool!  After wandering around a bit I noticed three large books on the floor tucked between a dresser and an old wing back chair.  Two of them were vintage wallpaper books but the third was an unassuming black leather post-bound album that looked like it had been taped up at one point with masking tape (or something similar).  It took both hands to pick it up as it was large and heavy.  I set it on the chair and opened it.  And this is what I saw:

Be still my beating heart!  The book was full.  Every single page had these gorgeous, stunning hand tinted prints of Godey's Ladies Book & La Mode Illustree.  In excellent to mint condition.

My eyes must have bugged out of my head because my MIL came running over and asked if I was all right.  All right?!!  I showed her the book saying that there was no way I could afford this book.  The price had to be over $300 - dare I ask?  Well, I did ask.  The owner said the price was $175.  I gasp! Oh Lordy!  But she took my gasp as something entirely different and said that she would sell it to me 50% off.  Ok, I about fainted then and there.  Keep calm, keep calm, just pay for the book and get out of there. 

When I got home my husband looked at me like I was nuts because I was pretty much skipping into the house - which really is a hysterical picture - really - a 51 year old woman skipping!?

So, while everything was bought for a good price the book is my prize and I will treasure it always!

Where In The World Is My Vagabond?

No place particularly exotic, really.  Hanging out in my nice, toasty warm and sunny Sunroom/Entryway.  Looks like Polly's trying to lay her claim - LOL!

I'm posting this because Sizzix wants to know where in the world my (& everyone else's!) Vagabond is.  I just have to post a link to their blog from mine and they will send me the new Gauge Keys - free.  I like to experiment with cutting different materials and these keys will take some of the risk away - Woohoo!

I took the pics with my little Digital Lomo camera - pretty cool looking eh?  That camera doesn't get nearly enough use!

BRRRRRRR!!!

LOVED Key West!  Hubby so much so that he wants to buy a place to retire to in the Lower Keys so he can hang out on the bridges and fish for snapper and grouper all day.  Let's just say I have thoroughly encouraged that line of thinking - VBG!

I just finished creating 3 new photo albums of my trip.  All these photos are from just one of the two cameras I brought.  Over 400 on this camera alone!  The other camera is my Digi Lomo camera which I hope to get to by the end of the week. 

Right now I have to concentrate on closing my 2011 books. Another tough year - I am hopeful 2012 will be an improvement. :0)  Also working on class offerings.  Some repeats of older classes plus some new, exciting book binding/making, metal, jewelry and mixed media classes. 

One of my goals for 2012 is to submit artwork to magazines again.  I had gotten away from it and even my husband commented that I had not submitted anything in a long time.  No time like the present - right?

A Halloween Nor'easter!

I think Mother Nature is playing tricks on us, 'cause it sure isn't much of a treat!  It wasn't supposed to snow here until after midnight tonight.  Pics were taken at about 2PM this afternoon!

Hey! I Think I'm Famous Now!

Hee, hee - just kidding; but I am tickled pink!  Terri from Beautiful Impressions just called to tell me to check out Dave Brethauer's (Memory Box) blog.  When he was in the store recently he saw the Halloween card samples I had created using Memory Box's new Halloween papers, stamps and dies (they cut beautifully by the way!) and he just loved them.  Apparently he loved them enough to share them on his blog.  Woohoo!  Great close up photos!  Thanks Dave!

While I was staying at my parent's house in Boston (Irene knocked out power for a solid week in Southeasten CT)- yes, I was a hurricane refugee along with my two kittens - my mother, of all people finally convinced me to sign up for a Facebook account.  If I know you (either IRL or through the online groups I belong to) I would love to have you friend me!

Irene's Coming!

The time to prepare is now.  Stay safe!  If you are told to evacuate by officials PLEASE listen to them. 

I went to Target yesterday and they are already out of water.  I scored the last 3 bottles only because they were on the top shelf in the back.  Being tall has it's advantages!

I am also pulling out my Christmas window lights because they are either battery or solar powered.  With 2 kittens in the house they are safer than candles.  I already took down the canopy on the deck, stored all the outdoor furniture and did other items on the preparedness list.  Hopefully it will just blow out to sea.  Better safe than sorry though!

Dinners At The Farm 2011 ~ Update

 

What can I say?!  Dinner, the experience, the location, EVERYTHING was spectacular!  I wasn't sure how Jon would do with eating outdoors since bugs love to feast on him but he really enjoyed himself as well - enough to say that we should do this again next year.  Woohoo! Can't wait!   We also plan on making the trip to Chester to go to Jonathan Rapp's restaurant, River Tavern because everything was so wonderful.  My plan was to take photos of every course but I forgot and only got two photos of the food; the Lobster BLT and the Grilled Tuna w/ Salad Nicoise.  I created an album with all the photos of the evening.  The link is on the left sidebar.  Just can't figure out how to add descriptions to each photo. Any advise?
