Salon des Independants

It's that time of year!  It's The Hygienic Art Gallery 32nd Annual Salon des Independants in New London CT.  I haven't participated for the last few years because of my work schedule.  Now I am newly self employed so I can join the fun again!

The event is modeled after the Salon des Independants held annually in Paris since 1884.  This event in New London CT has grown into the premier winter event for New London with many restaurants, bars, galleries, theaters and stores participating with their own events. 

It is an outsider art show open to all artists.  The rules are simple: one piece per artist, no judge, no jury, no fees, no censorship.  The exhibit is known for it's diverse original art ranging from the sublime to the outrageous (and yes, even controversial) .  Artists can choose to offer their pieces for sale with 30% going to the gallery, which is nonprofit.

I met up with my friends Sarah, Lisa & Michaela at the gallery where we all displayed our pieces then went across the street to the Muddy Water Cafe for sublime bagels & lox and yummy, hot coffee. 

The show opens tonight at 8PM and runs through Feb 13th.  Visit their website for more info if you are interested in attending.

My piece for this show is my collage titled La Paloma.  Hopefully it will sell and make the gallery a little bit of coin!

 

Last Art Show

After much thought and a horrible year - show wise I have decided to discontinue doing art shows at least until the economy dramatically improves.  People just don't have the discretionary income they once enjoyed - which I TOTALLY understand.  However all the compliments I get about my work doesn't pay the bills and these shows are expensive to participate in and are A LOT of work to prepare for - not to mention being at the mercy of the weather.  I will continue to teach in Westbrook (doing trunk shows along with each class) and sell on Etsy.  I will start loading more books and art to Etsy after this show on September 11.

So that being said I hope you can join me in a beautiful setting (rain or shine) at the Codman Estate in Lincoln MA.  All my books and artwork over $10 will be 25% - 50% off for that one day only.

Farmers Market

I will be a Guest Artist at this weekends farmers market in Old Lyme, CT.  I absolutely LOVE this market!  A perfect location - Ashlawn Coffee Farm, wonderful, locally grown fruits & veggies, local bakeries, fishmonger, pasture grown, natural beef & pork all along side local artists and artisans.  If you are in the area you MUST experience this market.  You won't regret it!

Last Craft Show Of The Year

I am participating in one more show for the year.  It is at the Corpus Christi School in Wethersfield CT.  I have included the address so you can enter it into your Garmin (or TomTom, or whatever you may use).  I have never done this show before so I'm not sure what to expect.  It is a juried show so we'll see!  If you are in the area stop in!

Come Rain, Shine or SNOW!!

The show must go on!  I have been busting my tail for the past week making new books and goodies to sell, I just hope the chill doesn't keep people away but rather gets them thinking about the holidays?  After all, Christmas is only a little more than  2 months away - EEK!  My husband thinks I'm nuts but I am prepared with long underwear, ski socks, a toasty hat, gloves, glove liners and hand & foot warmers.  Saturday is just supposed to be cloudy and cool, the jury's still out for Sunday.  Walking around it should be fine, but when you can't really move around too much it gets cold - fast.

Anyway, I will be in Woodstock CT this weekend (only about 1 hour from Boston, 45 min from Hartford) exhibiting in the Roseland Cottage Fine Art & Craft Show.  This show is one of the top shows in the country and is one of the largest benefits that Historic New England holds each year.

Niantic Ct Show

Last, but not least for now,  The 4th is fast approaching and that means The Niantic Outdoor Art & Craft Show is this weekend.  This is the 49th year of the show which runs in conjunction with the Lion's Lobsterfest and BBQ - YUM!! 

Enjoy a lobster dinner with all the fixins for a very reasonable price.  They even offer BBQ Chicken for you landlubbers!  Seriously, this is thier biggest fundraiser of the year.  The local Lion's do a LOT of fundraising, especially to support research to cure/prevent blindness ( ie Macular Degeneration & Retinitus Pigmantosa). 

This is a very well run show with lots of quality art in every medium. 

Apx. 150 artists will be displaying - and hopefully selling thier art.  So not only do you have to opportunity to purchase beautiful art, but you can also enjoy a FABULOUS dinner!

So come on down to beautiful Niantic, CT on the Southeastern CT shoreline on Saturday, July 4th from 10 AM - 6PM and Sunday, July 5th from 10AM - 5PM, Rain or Shine!  The show is centrally located on the grounds of the East Lyme Town Hall.  Exit 74 off of I-95, 2 1/2 miles south on Rte 161
( Pennsylvania Ave ).  Stop by and say Hi!

One Down, Two More (So Far) To Go

West Hartford was a success - thank goodness!  Very well organized - they have to be - the show in all it's parts is the largest I have ever been a part of.  HUGE art & craft section with lots of variety.  Lots of jewelry, though it looked like they tried to go for the unique so even within the jewelry category there was lots of variety.  Very large section of community business & organization tent section.  LOTS of food vendors - they had a food court set up behind Town Hall with a stage that had continuous  - and good - entertainment.  PLUS, there was an Amusement Park area as well.  The town really comes out to support this event!  Thank you SOOO much West Hartford and the surrounding communities for supporting this fabulous event!

Celebrate West Hartford!

The first show of the season is this weekend.  Ready or not, here it comes!  This is the first time I have participated in this show.  I have heard a lot of good things about it so hopefully it will be worthwhile.  With the state of the economy my expectations are pretty low - I'd like to make my expenses plus a little bit extra if possible. I have added a couple new items to the inventory, namely scrapbooks with mylar sleeves and fine, matted prints of some of my artwork.  Gotta keep things fresh ya know? 

If you're in the area this weekend check out the show.  In addition to the arts & crafts area there is an amusement area, food court featuring local restaurants, 5K road race, music, entertainment and many community events throughout the whole weekend.
