I finally have had some time to just make art for arts sake. No deadlines, no class samples - just fun. When I got my Vagabond (LOVE it by the way!) from Absolutely Everything they also gifted me with a small Tim Holtz Configuration Box and I couldn't wait to play with it. I even tried a couple of new techniques that I learned online!
Lots of Tim Holtz and Red Lead goodness here!
I covered the box with Tim Holtz Tissue Wrap in Composer, edged the front window with fabric tape and finished the corners with TH metal corners. I sprayed the acrylic window with a frost spray called Crystal Frost and rubbed away excess frost with an alcohol soaked Q-tip (another Tim technique!). The spray is available at craft stores in the flower arranging and glass container section.
The 'ice' dripping from the top is acetate that I punched out using Martha Stewart's Halloween punch called Ooze. I brushed on Glossy Accents and sprinkled with Diamond Dust chunky clear glitter. I saw this technique through the Alpha Stamps website. The artist originally handcut her icicles but I thought the MS punch would work perfectly - and it did.
The trim on the bottom that looks like Christmas trees is actually the negative space (the stuff you would normally throw away!) from the new TH die called Vintage Lace. I just colored, glittered and added the red jewels on top of each tree.
A peek at the inside. The Vintage deer (both tiny and large, plus the tiny tree) are from Red Lead Paperworks. The large one I just coated the antlers with Glossy Accents and dipped in clear, fine, glass glitter, then added the ribbon and bells around his neck. I painted the tiny deer with Gesso and dipped in the same glitter. I gave the same treatment to the tiny tree so it looked more snowy.
Some Close-up Pics:
I used papers and stickers from the Tim Holtz Seasonal Paper Pack to back all the boxes.
The bottle brush wreath is bleached using a 50/50 mix of bleach/water. Strangely enough the red ribbon doesn't bleach out - weird huh?
The wreath is finished with real vintage german glass glitter in silver.
I learned that technique from a video on You Tube.
The bottom of the box is a combination of Mica Flakes and Sparkle & Fluff (a mixture of white flocking and silver tinsel glitter)
Well, I hope you enjoyed the 'tour' of my little box. It's a keeper! I'm not giving this to anyone - VBG!
