I decided to take a few pieces from my erosion bundle that didn't do much and create one of my 'science experiments' (my DH's words). In a plastic container I mixed some brass items, cheesecloth, old lace and rayon ribbon with distilled vinegar and then sprinkled with Kosher Salt, loosely covered to allow for some air circulation and set out in the sun for the weekend. It was also very hot & humid which, I think, increased the effect. I did get SOME rust, but I got the most amazing color BLUE. In the rinsing I lost some of the blue intensity - but it's still quite pretty. More than I could have dreamed of! See the evidence below. Now I can't wait to create something with it!
