I have finally pulled in my bundle. It has been swinging in the wind, rain, snow and ice since January. I started to open it up inside my house but thought better of that idea and brought it outside after finding a couple of volunteer eroders (spiders - ICK!) nestled in the outer layers.
The bundle distressed in a strange way. First I used the same wire, from the same package to wrap my bundle and only 1 of them rusted, the other 3 still looked brand new - go figure.
Some of the ribbons faded and bled into the items near it - nicely distressed. Other than a bit of mold my fabrics didn't seem to do much. I wrapped cheesecloth around some vintage papers, tags and metal bits (solid brass). Cheesecloth didn't do much either and the metal items BARELY patinated and no rust - bummer! Maybe I wrapped them in to many layers and they didn't get the oxygen they needed to rust? I don't know. Maybe I'll take the metal bits back outside to sunbath in a bath of vinegar and salt. I'll get back to you on that one.
There is an article in the new Cloth, Paper, Scissors about putting together these types of bundles for some abuse from Mother Nature to naturally age & distress some of your art supply stash. Lots of good tips! The Erosion Bundle Project even got a shout out in one of the sidebars! How COOL is that!
Now to create with said above newly distressed art stash!
