I started this book in Seth Apter's For Your Eyes Only class (hence the name) in July 2014. It took me about a month to finish it completely. Of course I had to put my own spin on it with lots of vintage images, antique trims and German Dresden. Thanks so much Seth for such an awesome class! I like how it came out - hope you do too!
I am being very brave posting pics of the old studio and sharing my remodel/move to the larger space as it continues (right now, very slowly). Believe it or not the old studio was pretty organized. I liked to call it an organized mess - LOL! It just became so cramped with so much CRAP it wasn't conducive to creating anymore. Please be kind if you comment! :0)
Update: The studio is finished! Woohoo!
Located at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme CT this is a yearly event. 38 structures are hidden throughout the FloGris property. The level of detail in each and every structure is just extraordinary! So much fun whether you have kids or not. A magical day!
For my birthday this year we traveled to Madison CT's Barberry Hill Farm to attend 'Dinners At The Farm' an annual summer event started by Jonathan Rapp of River Tavern in Chester CT. For two weekends in July and two weekends in August he picks two host farms to host this fabulous charity event to benefit City Seed plus two other land/farm related charities. All the food we ate was locally sourced and absolutely spectacular!
Just wanted to share a some ATCs I made a while back using Lost Art Creations goodies. Text seems to find it way into almost every piece of art I create. Am I the only one who has elements in their art that continuously show up in piece after piece?
I am participating in a 13 day exchange with the Altered Artist Guild. It's called 'A POEtic Exchange' For 13 days we will open up a giftie for that day (we were all assigned days - I am #4). We start opening gifts on Sept 25th and the last one will be opened on Oct 7th, the 200th anniversary of Edgar Allen Poe's death. I had a lot of fun making my gifties. I started with a masterboard collage then reduced and printed in onto fabric for the fabric bags I then stitched up. I also used it on the giftie inside but I won't be sharing that pic until Sept 28th. Gotta keep it a surprise for the other players ya know?
Today I am working on the next round of B-day cards for family & friends, then I have to get going preparing kits for a book making class I am teaching in Massachussetts in October. Not very exciting stuff I'm afraid!
Just wanted to share a quick pic of a quiltie I just finished for our summer quiltie mingle on the Lost Art Creations Yahoo Group. The quiltie looks a little wonky because the purple rose is so thick. It really is a normal rectangular shape. This will be winging it's way to Texas early next week.
Joyce started the In The Studio RR and these are the pages I did for her journal. She wants to know what inspires us, what drives us to create. Her fascination (she calls it an obsession) with what drove other artists to create is what inspired her to organize this round robin. This is the last journal I will have worked in for this RR. 3 things I constantly find in my work are Text (any language and style), Nature (gardens - anyones' - inspire me!) and Texture (I'm a TOTAL texture junkie!).
The next journal heading here will be my own. I can't wait to hold it in my hands again! It has been traveling the globe since last October. This project included fabulous artists and I am honored & privileged to have been a part of it. Thank you Joyce for inviting me!
Where has Summer gone? Not that we've really had one. Sunny days are rare. And I don't think it's gone above 90F here since April(???!!). The tomatoes have grown really tall, but before they can ripen enough for me to pick their skin splits - yuck! It's pretty bad when water hogs like tomatoes are getting TO MUCH water. My Dill has been completely done in. Maybe I'll try planting more seeds this month. No Basil either. The rest of my herbs seem to be doing surprisingly well, especially the Rosemary and Tarragon, which I have always had a tough time with. Hopefully things will dry out a bit so we can enjoy eating outdoors on the screened in part of the deck. Haven't been able to do that much this summer either.
Rain, Rain, Go Away, come again another day - in say September?
